The pink twirling boots in the story Twirl with Me, Mama! have a very sweet and beautiful meaning. I explained Ivy’s character to Emma, our illustrator, as a young girl that embodied both sweetness and spunk. We collaborated to develop Ivy’s style, leading to the decision to dress her in an Abercrombie and Fitch inspired look, thus the pink Doc Martins. You’ll find them all throughout the book at of course, they’re always unlaced! This is a representation of Ivy’s carefree spirit and symbolizes childhood freedom and adventure.
My husband bought me two of the exact pair of pink Doc Martin boots that Ivy’s wears in the story to give to our newly born adorable twin baby granddaughters. It was such a sweet gesture as
a way to celebrate my first book. This gift deepens the book’s meaning for me and ties it to my family.
The book is also dedicated to my sweet grand babies with a whimsical note, enjoy twirling in your pink boots. I feel a personal connection to this story in so many ways and will always hope the little girls enjoy twirling through life!
